Do you feel unable to cope with your emotions? Are you struggling with unwanted thoughts, feelings or behaviours? Have you experienced trauma in your life that is preventing you from living the life you want for yourself? From time to time, we all struggle with our emotions or an issue in our lives. Life bring us challenges like disappointments, failures, boredom and risks. It’s a normal part of life. There are treasures in each of these experiences that will teach you something. And reaching out to a professional for support can be daunting. But in doing so, you are taking the first step on your journey to a brighter future.
Initial consultation
Before we can begin working together, we can have a free 15 minutes telephone conversation. This will help me find out more about the challenges you are struggling with and if I think we can work together. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about counselling so you feel comfortable and confident if we choose to work together. After that, individual and couples counselling sessions are 50 minutes long and take place over Zoom.
How I work – modalities
My approach is relational, integrative, person centred, transpersonal and interpersonal in that I take the time to look at your unique circumstances so I can tailor my approach to your specific needs. Listed below are the main approaches that I will draw upon as we work through your therapeutic pathway.
Transactional Analysis
Transactional Analysis is centred around the idea that everyone has three ego states – parent, adult and child. By exploring each of these states, and how your current situation has been influenced by your past experiences, particularly those in childhood, we can analyse how you communicate and identify ways to improve. TA therapy focuses on developing practical tools to help you find positive solutions to your communication issues, so you are able to problem solve themselves and work towards autonomy.
Relational Model
The relational approach to therapy is founded on the idea that it is the relationship between the counsellor and client that is integral to healing. Modalities and approaches are effective, but only if there is a strong therapeutic relationship between you and your counsellor. Everyone needs someone else to help them heal, and this ‘social’ healing is proven to yield the best results. As a relational therapist, I will take the time to create a strong therapeutic relationship, one based on mutual respect and acceptance, so you can fulfil your potential.
Trauma Informed Therapy
Trauma Informed Therapy takes into account the trauma you have experienced, whether it was recent or in your past, and the impact it has on your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I appreciate that you may have a trauma history and I will ensure that I don’t trigger any painful memories. You may suffer from trauma for a variety of reasons and many people experience different symptoms. In my role, I will help you identify the root cause of your trauma, and help you find ways to make more positive choices, so you feel emotionally and physically safe.
Transpersonal
Transpersonal therapy addresses all aspects of your being – social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, physical and creative. It is based on the premise that to achieve your potential and heal, you must reconnect with your core self. I will help you build on and expand your personal qualities, so you can use your resources to remove inner conflicts and restore balance and harmony.
